[January 6] THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION

THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION
Scripture Reading: Psalms 119:65-72
The law of Your mouth is better to me than thousands of coins of gold and silver. - Psalms 119:72
If you ever had to make a choice between God's express instructions Land an opportunity to make $1,000 illegally, what would you do? Would the answer change if the amount was increased to $1,000,000? I suspect that these questions could prove more difficult to answer than they seem. As Christians, our lives are governed by God's unchanging word. Every choice, decision or opportunity must be viewed within the lenses of what God approves of. The Christian life is not a stroll in the park. It's a lifelong journey filled with tough choices.
That is what Christ himself meant in Matthew 16:24 when He said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me." The path to riches is inundated with really difficult choices. Many people find their faith in God in direct conflict with the business choices that confront them. The Psalmist recognised this in Psalms 119:66, when he prayed, “Teach me good judgment and knowledge, For I believe Your commandments." True prosperity comes by observing the principles enshrined in God's word. That should be your anchor whenever you have to make a choice between the principles of God's word and some unethical practice or illegal doorway to wealth.
The Psalmist said what we must all say in such situations – that he would rather stick with God's word than chase ill-gotten wealth. True blessings come from God. Do not blindly pursue wealth and in the process deny your relationship with God: or you'll eventually find yourself on your knees.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to choose You above every desire for wealth.
