The Power Of The Cross 1
John 19:17–20
The cross
- Sacrifice: Christ gave up His glory for it
- Shame: Christ was publicly humiliated on it
- Suffering: Christ experienced pain and death on it
- Salvation: Christ purchased our redemption on it
Matthew 20:17–19; 26:1–2; John 3:14–15; 8:28–29
Jesus knew…
- He would be crucified
- He would die on a tree
- He would die publicly
- His death would draw people to Him
- His death would give life
1 Corinthians 1:18, 22-24
“Christ Crucified”
- To the Romans/Greeks: Jesus was Condemned (foolishness)
- To the Jews: Jesus was Cursed (stumbling block)
- To the believer: Christ the power and wisdom of God.
What changed the cross?
- The person who died on it
- The price that was paid on it
- The promise that was fulfilled on it
- Psalm 22
