[January 27] HARNESSING MY TALENT FOR MY PURPOSE

HARNESSING MY TALENT FOR MY PURPOSE
Scripture Reading: Romans: 8:18-30
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. - Romans 8:28
Each of us has a unique talent or ability given to us by God for the fulfillment of a purpose. Until you appreciate God's purpose, your life could be a jumbled, chaotic mix of activities without meaning or direction. Purpose makes your life, pain and disappointments more meaningful and beneficial. That is when you appreciate the good in everything you've been through. How can I harness my talent to help fulfill my purpose?

  • Invest Time: Time is the currency of your life. God has graciously given each of us the same amount of time. Spend it wisely. When a person's tombstone reads '1930 - 2010', the dash represents everything they did with their time and their lives.
  • Invest in Knowledge: Take responsibility for the knowledge you require. You can only go as far as your level of knowledge. Proverbs 23:23 says, “Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding." Experts suggest that every amount invested in acquiring knowledge potentially yields a 30-fold return.
  • Sharpen your Abilities: Ecclesiastes 10:10 says, “If the ax is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success." Practice makes you sharper and more skillful.
Talent without the discipline of quality investment of time, knowledge and practice can short circuit your progress. Don't be in a hurry to perform. Build capacity, put in the hours and pay the price and when you're called upon, you will not disappoint.
Prayer: Lord, help me to develop my gift to the highest level. Let my experiences, pains and preparations all work together for my good.
