GOING LEFT OR RIGHT
Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:13-23
Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. - Matthew 7:13
A choice is an act of selecting or making a decision when faced M with two or more possibilities or options. God created us to make choices. We are always making one choice or another. Only a slave or a beggar has little or no choices. Today, we focus on general principles for making right choices. In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus cautions us to enter by the narrow gate and to avoid the broad way. A gate is a point of entry while a way is the path we travel on to get to our destination. The gate you choose leads you to a path, which then leads you to your destination. Jesus contrasted two options and recommended life to us.
OPTION ONE (LIFE)
This is Jesus' recommended choice.
- The Narrow Gate: This implies controlled access. You can't go through side by side with a friend. Each one has to choose for themselves.
- The Difficult Path: It involves sacrificial living. Walking this path requires denying yourself.
- Few find it: It is not a popular choice. You will often find yourself alone.
OPTION TWO (DESTRUCTION)
Jesus warns against choosing this path.
- The Wide Gate: This implies easy and uncontrolled access.
- The Broad Way or Path: It is a lifestyle of unrestrained pleasure and convenience.
- Many find it: It is a popular choice. You will find many on that route.
Prayer: Father, deliver me from the path of destruction. Help me to always choose the narrow path that leads to life.
