"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. John 15:5
There is a story about a kite that was soaring high in the sky when it saw a field of beautiful flowers some 26 distance away. The kite wanted to go and see those beautiful flowers but it couldn't because there was a string holding it and the string wasn't long enough to let it fly where it wanted. Upset with the string holding it, the kite pulled and grumbled and tugged until it finally broke free from the string. Happily, the kite soared for a few moments toward the field of flowers. But soon it came crashing down-falling far short of its goal. What had seemed to be holding the kite down was actually holding it up.
Christians behave like that kite. God raises them up in life and blesses their lives with so many good things. As they rise higher and higher, they see new 'fields of flowers' that attract them. However, anytime they try to reach for those 'fields of flowers', they feel a string holding them back. That string is the Holy Spirit. In frustration, they grumble and pull until eventually they separate themselves from the control of the Holy Spirit. For a moment, they are excited. They have no restrictions; they can go anywhere they want and do what they want. They forget that the string that took them up is the same string that also restrains them.
Soon enough, they start floundering and falling. Their new `freedom' cuts them off the source of their strength. Without 'the string, they are like wandering leaves. Are you like that kite? The good news is that you can come back to 'the string' and He will take you back.
Prayer: Lord, help me to live my life within the control of Your spirit.
Scriptural Reading: John 15:9-17
