[February 25] PARTNERSHIP MISALIGNMENT

PARTNERSHIP MISALIGNMENT
Scripture Reading: Genesis 19:12-26
But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26
The circumstances of Lot's family's escape from Sodom were quite dramatic. Two angels visited and warned him to leave his home and flee to the mountains because God was about to destroy the city. It was naturally very difficult for them to move. Lot even negotiated amendment to stay in near Zoar. Lot obeyed because he had interacted with the angels and knew who they were and Who had sent them.
There was another instruction involved. They were not to look back as they fled. Mrs. Lot, for some reason, chose to have one last look and was turned into a pillar of salt. Her decision had dire consequences for herself and later for the whole family. We often focus our narrative on Mrs. Lot's disobedience or her lust for the old life of sin. But the story also reveals another dimension - a lack of spousal or partnership alignment. Did Lot communicate clearly to his wife?
A person may obey an unusual leading from God or decide on a course of action that has obvious consequences for his or her entire family. It could be a health option you exercise or a decision to sell a property, go into politics, full-time missions, back to school, a radical career switch or something equally significant. This passage underscores the need to ensure full alignment with the decision. If not, don't be surprised if there is opposition or resistance. Mentally travelling such journeys with our spouse, partner or children helps them fully appreciate our decisions.
Prayer: Lord, grant me the wisdom to carry my family along with me in all the critical decision moments of my life.
