HOW TO GET WISDOM
Scripture Reading: Job 32:1-22
“Great men are not always wise, Nor do the aged always understand justice." - Job 32:9
Job's friend, Elihu, made some noteworthy observations about wisdom. According to Him, wisdom is not based on age, title or position. It is Spiritual and is received through inspiration. So how does one receive wisdom?
Seven Ways to Get Wisdom
The fear of the Lord: Proverbs 9:10 says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Wisdom starts with reverence for God.
Listening and Learning: Jesus at age twelve spent time in the temple listening and learning. The fool often talks without listening but Proverbs 1:5a says, “A wise man will hear and increase learning..."
Make Wise Friends: Ensure that the ten closest people in your life are people of wisdom. Proverbs 13:20 says, “He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.”
Receive Correction and make amends: Proverbs 15:31-32 cautions that "he who disdains instruction despises his own soul.” Receive correction graciously when you err.
Guard your emotions and tongue: Proverbs 17:27 says, “He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit." Control your emotions and don't get carried away easily.
Appreciate the brevity of life: Psalms 90:12 says, “So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” Knowing that life is short makes us more thoughtful and deliberate about choices.
Pray for Wisdom: James 1:5 gives us the ultimate key. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
Prayer: Lord, grant me the wisdom that comes from you alone.
