ANOINTING
So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts" Zechariah 4:6
The New Testament Greek words for "anoint" are CHRIO, which means "to smear or rub with oil" and, by implication, "to consecrate for office or religious service;" and ALEIPHO, which means "to anoint." In Bible times, people were anointed with oil to signify God's blessing, call on that person's life, a king, a prophet and more. Aaron and sons - Exod. 29:7, Jehu - 2 Kings 9:6, Samuel - 1 Sam. 16:13.
Spiritually, the oil in itself has no power. It symbolises the Holy Spirit. To Zerubbabel God indicated that the anointing will be by the SPIRIT not by the oil. Today we can identify with the instruction to Zerubbabel that the anointing will be by the Holy Spirit for the following:
- God has set you apart for special purpose. God is saying He has chosen you out of the multitude because you are precious and highly esteemed. Exodus 40:9
- God has destroyed the yoke that entangles you spiritually. God is saying, I have set you free from all demonic influences and curses. Isa. 10:27
- God has preserved you from evil. God is saying my power is sufficient to keep you from destruction. The forces of darkness, spiritual wickedness in high places and conspiracies of evil cannot stop you.
- God's abiding presence is with you. God is saying I will never leave nor forsake.
- God's strength is with you. God is saying I have equipped you with strength for service. So you are able. Ecclesiastes 9:8
Never be disheartened because of your limited resources, the task will be accomplished in a miraculous way and no human can take the glory. Your testimony will be great to the glory of God.
Prayer: Lord, clothe me with power from on high and anoint me for victory.
