[June 21] THANKSGIVING

THANKSGIVING
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” Psalm 100:4
Thanksgiving is an integral part of human life. For we Christians, it's rooted in the responsibility and a commitment to show gratitude to God and honour Him.
Nations have established National thanksgiving days. On December 4, 1619, 38 English settlers arrived at Berkely Plantation on the James River near present Charles City, Virginia. The settlement's charter required that the day of arrival be commemorated as a thanks giving day to Almighty God. After the Revolutionary War, at the request of Congress in 1789, President George Washington declared: “Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.” Finally in 1941, Congress legislated that Thanksgiving would be observed on the fourth Thursday of November and would be a federal holiday to the people of United States of America. Thanksgiving to the Christian is:
  • A biblical command (As obedient child, you must obey the command to always give thanks for it is the will of God for your life)
  • Expression of gratitude (It is the reasonable respond to the many blessings He has lavished on you)
  • Strengthens your dependence on God (Thanksgiving is a faith booster)
  • Releases God's provision and protection (It is said that when you appreciate what you have, what you have will appreciate)
Do you have a thankful heart? Are you grateful for how far God has brought you and your family? Then, lift up your hands and give thanks.
Prayer: Thank you Father, for all that you have done for me and my family.

Scriptural Reading: Psalm 100:1-5
