A THIRST FOR GOD
O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water. Psalm 63:1
When people fall in love they reorder their priorities to embrace their new-found love. They feel differently, talk differently and behave differently. I know of a man who spent the night sleeping outside the home of his girlfriend, just to 'feel close' to her. We can tell how much we love the Lord by our passion for Him. When we love God, we tell Him: • You are my God. That is the first and most important
commitment each one of us must make – to make the Lord, our God. He is not just the creator of the universe or some impersonal force that governs nature. He is our God because we have a personal relationship with Him. Early will I seek you. When the Lord is our God, He also becomes our first point of call at all times. He is our first priority. Whether we are making decisions, seeking guidance or making an investment, our first consideration must always be to seek God's will and purpose for our lives. My soul thirsts for you. We must nurture an intense desire within our hearts for God. We must pursue His word, presence and glory every waking day of our lives. The things that make us most excited and get us going must be the things that matter most to God. My flesh longs for you. Loving God means preserving our bodies as His temples and honouring Him through our words and actions. Our physical appetites must be yielded to the Lord.
Prayer: Ask the Holy Spirit to create in you a new desire to know God intimately and revive your zeal and passion.
Scriptural Reading: Psalm 63:1-11
