In His forbearance God had passed over the
sins that were previously committed, to
demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of
the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3:25-26
“Justification" is an often-used word in
the Christian vocabulary that carries great meaning. It is a word that declares the rightness of something—not symbolically or
potentially, but actually. The Bible says when we come to Christ and ask Him to forgive our sins, believing that He died in our place and took the penalty of
our sins, He justifies us.
One way to think of the word, "justification," is "just
as if it never happened." When we come to Christ and ask His forgiveness, He says,
"You are justified." That is, "just as if it never had
happened." It is an incredible feeling to think about the fact that God sees us as if we never committed a sin all
our lives. It is sad that many have allowed
the guilt of their past sins to plague their lives. It is pettish that Satan's accusations have rendered many
Christians ineffective in their walk with the Lord.
But, you should
know by now that Satan is a liar. When the Lord Jesus rose from the grave, God declared you not guilty. Jesus has paid
the penalty of your sins in full. You have become a new creation. The old
has passed. It is as if your past sins never happened. Corrie ten Boom used to say "God has taken our sin and
thrown it into the sea of
forgetfulness and posted a sign that says, 'No fishing allowed." You are
justified. You have been declared not guilty. You are free!
Prayer: Give thanks to the Lord for dying on the cross for
your sins and rising on the third day for
justification.
