[JULY 30] THANKSGIVING

THANKSGIVING
In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
A grandmother took her young grandson to see the beach for the H very first time. While playing along the shore, a massive wave suddenly and unexpectedly washed over the boy sweeping him out to sea. The horrified and panic-stricken grandmother dropped to her knees, raised her eyes to heaven and cried out to God, begging Him to return her beloved grandson.
While she was still praying another massive wave appeared and deposited the young boy at his grandmother's feet. He was soaking wet and little bit panicky but perfectly fine. The grandmother hugged the boy and looked him from head to toe and looked to heaven, pointed a finger angrily at the sky and snapped, "God, when he went into the ocean he wore a brand new hat and I want it back.”.
How often are we like that grandmother? Instead of keeping a heart of thanksgiving and gratitude for all that God is, has done and will do for us, we display a spirit of ingratitude that comes from focusing on what we don't have rather than on what we do have.
Throughout Scripture we are called repeatedly to be thankful, rejoice and praise God for who He is to us, what He has done for and all that He has promised to do. Gratitude and thanksgiving to God is a very important exercise. It confirms your conviction and faith in God. It is an indication of your awareness of God's position, power and promises.
Tomorrow is the last day of our 40 Days of Power. Why don't you thank and praise God for bringing you this far? Note that a grateful person is a happy person and is a content person, so cultivate the spirit of gratitude.
Prayer: Thank God for being the creator of heaven and earth, all His provision and promises; praise Him for salvation and the new things He will do.
Scriptural Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-23
